Tridentine Mass

Monday, October 23, 2006

PARIS (Reuters) - Pope Benedict's expected revival of the old Latin mass has provoked protests from Roman Catholic clergy in France, a major center of the traditionalist schism the Pontiff hopes to overcome with the
gesture.
Five bishops and 30 priests -- a considerable number in a church normally wary of open dissent -- have expressed grave concern about making this concession to ultra-conservatives who reject the reforms of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965).

Unswerving loyalty to the old Latin, or Tridentine mass, often goes hand in hand with a rejection of the Vatican II reforms, which opened the church to respect for and cooperating with other faiths and switched to a modern mass conducted in local languages.

The protests printed in the Catholic press highlighted serious issues the Vatican faces if, as church sources have reported, it announces soon that priests are free to say the vintage mass as an alternative to the modern
liturgy

Comments from the Washington Post;

There is a solemn aura to 9 a.m. Sunday Mass at Saint Mary Mother of God, a D.C. parish on Fifth Street NW where hundreds of Catholics who long for ancient ritual gather each week to celebrate what is among the most traditional and complex of Roman Catholic rites: the Tridentine Mass

The sounds are few and particular. Latin is the language of prayer, and the only ones who speak it during the service are the nearly inaudible priest and the Gregorian Chant Choir that performs on the third Sunday of each month. Robed altar servers -- there are as many as 10 -- ring bells several times during the hour-long service.

There is just a centuries-old script, which dictates the near-constant, intricate movements of the altar servers -- circling the altar, kneeling, pressing hands together, bowing -- as well as the position of the priest, whose back is to parishioners. Together, everyone faces East, acknowledging that Jesus is the true dawn

This Reminds me of the "sedevacantists," who "Believe"
That There has Been NO Legitimate Pope since about 1958..
"sedevacant", means Empty Chair..
That the Chair Of Peter is Empty, That POPE Benedict XVI Is NOT a LEGITIMATE POPE..and these "catholics," Only attend The "Latin Rite," Mass..As Does Mel Gibson, who Built His "own Latin Rite Church,"
So Therefore anyone who Is Against the Pope, Is In Schism..
This "sedevacantist," movement was started By a Bishop who was Excommunicated..!
But he still has his "followers."
GOD Bless Papa Benedict XVI

This is a Beautiful Gesture From Pope Benedict XVI.
But Anyone who deems that He And All The POPES Going Back to POPE John XXIII Are NOT LEGITIMATE POPE'S, then they are in Schism!!.
We Have Enough Criticism from the Prots, But For a "Catholic," to Question The HOLY SEE'S LEGITIMACY And Go Against The CHURCH'S Teachings. Then They are going Against GOD.!!!!
I Have Spoken To Priests About these "sedevacantists," One Said something like "What Gives Them the Right to say The POPE Is Not the POPE." Another told me that they Actually Excomminucate Themselves.
Actually these sedevacantists are an EMBARRASMENT To Catholics!!

In Our MASS The Priest Says
"Your Servant Pope Benedict."
In the sedevacantist "mass," Our Holy Father Is NOT Mentioned..!!
Because He is deemed an "Illigitimate Pope."
So Anyone who goes Against The Holy Father, does Not have The RIGHT to Call Themselves CATHOLICS.!
Actually they should Call themselves "testavacantists." "Empty Heads".!!!!

Marcel-François Lefebvre (November 29, 1905–March 25, 1991), better known as Marcel Lefebvre, was a Roman Catholic archbishop[1] who took the lead in opposing the reforms within the Catholic Church associated with the Second Vatican Council (1962-65).[2] In particular, he condemned ecumenism,[3] the principle of religious liberty,[4] collegiality[5] and the replacement of the Tridentine Mass.[6] In 1970, he founded the Priestly Society of St. Pius X (SSPX), an organisation which continues in existence to this day.[7]

In 1988, the Holy See (first the Congregation for Bishops,[8] then Pope John Paul II, with his motu proprio Ecclesia Dei)[9] declared Lefebvre automatically excommunicated for consecrating four bishops in violation of canon law and in spite of a warning from the Holy See and a personal appeal from the Pope.

From the Office of the Congregation for Bishops, 1 July 1988

Monsignor Marcel Lefebvre, Archbishop-Bishop Emeritus of Tulle, notwithstanding the formal canonical warning of 17 June last and the repeated appeals to desist from his intention, has performed a scismatical act by the episcopal consecration of four priests, without pontifical mandate and contrary to the will of the Supreme Pontiff, and has therefore incurred the penalty envisaged by Canon 1364, paragraph 1, and Canon 1382 of the Code of Canon Law.

Having taken account of all the juridical effects, I declare that the above-mentioned Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, and Bernard Fellay, Bernard Tissier de Mallerais, Richard Williamson and Alfonso de Galarreta have incurred ipso facto excommunication latae sententiae reserved to the Apostolic See.

Moreover, I declare that Monsignor Antonio de Castro Mayer, Bishop emeritus of Campos, since he took part directly in the liturgical celebration as co-consecrator and adhered publicly to the schismatical act, has incurred excommunication latae sentientae as envisaged by Canon 1364, paragraph 1.

The priests and faithful are warned not to support the schism of Archbishop Lefebvre, otherwise they shall incur ipso facto the very grave penalty of excommunication.

the sedevacavtists say that the conciliar and post-consiliar Popes were and are heretics, thus they possess no authority to teach anything in the name of the Catholic Faith, and then they go and set up their 'independent' 'churches', elect their own 'popes' often enough (some 13 or more now), and then begin calling each other heretics, and get on with it.

Hutton Gibson says Pope John Paul II is not a true pope.

The pope isn't Catholic. John Paul II, the man most people believe to be pope, is really an impostor. He's deliberately plotting to destroy the Catholic Church from within. Catholics have been lied to, and they have been robbed. These are the messages Hutton Gibson preaches in his crusade to save the souls of his fellow Catholics.

From his home in northwest Houston, he mails out his eight-page newsletter titled "The War Is Now!" He has 600 subscribers worldwide. He's also written the self-published books Is the Pope Catholic? and The Enemy Is Here, which features a cover with a map of Italy and an arrow pointing to Rome.

Gibson's dad is no nuttier than some of the sedevacantists and SSPXers who write on the religion forum.

Which is to say, he's a total fruitcake.

hutton gibson said the Second Vatican Council was ''a Masonic plot backed by the Jews.''

regarding the events of Sept. 11. Hutton flatly rejected that Al Qaeda hijackers had anything to do with the attacks. ''Anybody can put out a passenger list,'' he said.

So what happened? ''They were crashed by remote control,'' he replied
reagrding the Holocaust, dismissing historical accounts that six million Jews were exterminated. ''Go and ask an undertaker or the guy who operates the crematorium what it takes to get rid of a dead body,'' he said. ''It takes one liter of petrol and 20 minutes. Now, six million?'
